Scrap Car Removal FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask on the phone every week. If yours is not here, call Jay and ask — it takes a minute.

Cost And Payment

How much does scrap car removal cost?

It does not cost you anything. You get paid. Jay quotes a cash amount on the phone based on the year, make, model and condition, and that is the amount handed to you at pickup.

Do I pay for towing?

No. Towing is free on every scrap vehicle in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. There are no fuel charges, no winching fees and nothing deducted from your quote after the truck arrives.

When do I get paid?

Cash is in your hand before the vehicle goes on the deck, after the paperwork is signed.

Can the price change when the truck shows up?

No. The person who quoted the vehicle is the person driving the truck. As long as the vehicle is what was described on the phone, the number stays the same.

Pickup And Scheduling

How fast can you pick it up?

Most vehicles are picked up the same day or the next day. If you need a specific window, such as before school drop-off or after work, say so when you call and Jay will book that time.

Can you remove a vehicle that doesn't run?

Yes. The flat deck has a winch, so vehicles that will not start, will not steer or will not roll get pulled straight on. Flat tires, seized brakes, no keys and no battery are all normal.

Can Jay meet me at a repair shop or dealership?

Yes, and it happens often. Jay regularly meets people at a shop, a dealership or their workplace instead of at home.

Do I have to be home?

Someone with photo ID and the ownership paperwork has to be there to sign and take the cash, but it does not have to be at your house.

Can you take a car out of an underground parkade?

Usually, yes. Mention the parkade on the call so Jay knows the clearance. If a vehicle cannot be winched out directly it gets moved to the ramp first.

Paperwork

What paperwork do I need?

Government photo ID and proof of ownership, normally the ICBC vehicle registration. The name on the registration should match the person signing and taking payment.

What if I lost the registration?

Call anyway. It is common and usually solvable. An ICBC Autoplan broker can reprint the registration for the registered owner, often the same day.

What happens to my licence plates?

Plates stay with you in BC, not with the vehicle. Pull them before the truck leaves, then cancel or transfer the insurance so you stop paying on a recycled vehicle.

Vehicles And Condition

What if my engine is blown?

A blown engine is one of the most common reasons people call. Whether it's a failed Hyundai engine, a worn transmission or another major mechanical problem, the vehicle can still be picked up and recycled. In many cases, replacing the engine costs more than the vehicle is worth.

What vehicles do you buy?

Cars, SUVs, minivans and light trucks of any year, running or not. Civics, Accords, Santa Fes, Highlanders, Foresters and Edges come up almost every week around the Tri Cities.

Can I scrap a vehicle with a blown engine?

Yes. A blown engine is one of the most common reasons people call, and the quote is based on what can be salvaged and recycled rather than whether it drives.

Can I scrap an out of province vehicle?

Usually yes. Bring whatever ownership document the other province issued, along with your photo ID, and mention it on the call so Jay can confirm what the recycler needs.

Should I fix it or scrap it?

If the repair estimate is close to or above what the vehicle is worth running, most people scrap it. Rust in the frame or strut towers is usually the point where repairs stop making sense.

Vehicle Ownership

Can someone else meet you for me?

Yes. As long as the person meeting Jay has the proper authority to sign for the vehicle. If you're unsure, call first and we'll explain what's needed.

Can I sell an estate vehicle?

Yes. Every estate is different, so call Jay before pickup and he'll explain exactly what paperwork you'll need.

Belongings And Who Meets The Truck

Can I leave personal belongings in my vehicle?

Please empty it first. Once the vehicle is signed over it goes to the recycler and gets dismantled, so anything left inside is gone. Check the glovebox, under the seats, the trunk and the spare tire well.

Can someone else meet you instead of me?

Yes, as long as the registered owner has signed the paperwork and that person is comfortable handing over the keys and taking the cash. Tell Jay on the call who will be there so nothing gets held up.

Service Area And Recycling

Do you remove junk cars in Port Coquitlam?

Yes. Port Coquitlam is on the same daily route as Coquitlam, including Mary Hill, Riverwood and Citadel.

Do you remove junk cars in Port Moody?

Yes. Heritage Mountain, Newport Village, Moody Centre and the streets near Rocky Point are all covered.

What happens after pickup?

The vehicle is delivered to a licensed recycling facility where fluids are safely removed, reusable parts are salvaged and the remaining metal is recycled responsibly.
