Recyclers do. A private buyer wants a car that drives; a recycler is buying the other 95% of the vehicle — the body, the transmission, the wheels, the metal — so a dead engine barely changes the offer.
Why the engine matters less than people expect
Once a motor is gone, the vehicle is valued by what can be salvaged and by its weight in steel and aluminium. A Santa Fe with a seized engine and a Santa Fe that idles fine are worth close to the same thing at that point.
Don't spend money proving it's dead
There's no reason to pay for another diagnostic, a compression test or a tow to a second shop. If it's knocking, overheating, blowing white smoke or won't turn over, that's enough information to get a quote over the phone.
It doesn't have to run, start or steer
Jay runs a flat deck with a winch. Vehicles get pulled on with flat tires, seized brakes, no keys or no battery — out of carports, back lanes and parkades around Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.
What you need on pickup day
Photo ID and proof of ownership. Plates come off, the paperwork gets signed, cash is handed over before the car goes on the deck. See What Documents Do You Need To Scrap A Car In BC?
